What is Synthetic Nicotine?

Synthetic nicotine, also known as Tobacco-free Nicotine (TFN), is formulated using chemicals rather than extracted from tobacco plants. Most E-Liquid on the market contains tobacco-derived nicotine that involves extracting the nicotine from tobacco plants to create Freebase Nicotine or Nicotine Salts.

Is Synthetic Nicotine Safe?

Compared to normal tobacco-derived nicotine, synthetic nicotine is technically somewhat safer because it contains no impurities from the tobacco plant; this makes Synthetic nicotine the purest version of nicotine available. However, nicotine is noted by many to be relatively harmless in its own right, regardless if it's synthetic or not. Still, it is highly addictive, so it should be treated with caution and should not be used by anyone under the age of 18 or a woman who is pregnant or breastfeeding.

Is Synthetic Nicotine better?

Synthetic nicotine isn't better or worse; Nicotine is nicotine, no matter the process.

A major pro for Synthetic nicotine is that it contains no flavour or scent commonly associated with tobacco-derived nicotine; manufacturers can use less flavourings to cover up the taste of the nicotine and be more creative in flavour design.

A con for Synthetic nicotine is that, at this current point in time, it is a more expensive raw ingredient, which increases the price point of products that contain Synthetic nicotine.

Why use Synthetic Nicotine?

Synthetic Tobacco-free Nicotine (TFN) is gaining popularity among American E-Liquid manufacturers. The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) regulates any product that is derived from tobacco plants as a tobacco product, so many American manufacturers opt for Tobacco-free Nicotine instead.

There is also a growing argument that in the future, tobacco-derived nicotine will dramatically increase in price as tobacco smoking becomes less and less popular, and the supply of tobacco plants to extract the nicotine follows suit.
